Some people choose to spend time developing their personal brand, and some don’t, but everybody has one whether they want to or not. The question is whether you want to own that brand or just let it default to what others have to say. As we’ve been looking at potential candidates for a few roles we have open at our agency, it’s been very interesting to see the different levels of personal branding that exist out there. Some people make it easy to learn a lot about them through various sites, while others seemingly exist only as a resume.
Back in 2016 I shared the story of “Carol” who was trying to control her personal brand by keeping things small, but that meant that she was largely doing the opposite. By limiting the sites she used, she was letting Google show results on her behalf.
My friend Lisa recently published an episode of her podcast that dug into this. She shares tips on building your personal brand in a way that makes you more memorable and showcases your integrity.
Your personal brand exists whether you want it to or not, so taking time to listen to folks like Lisa to help keep it strong and focused is a very wise thing to do.
