Pray for help, but put in the work

When you have a lot that you need to accomplish, it’s ok to ask for help. That could be in the form of prayer, asking friends, or wherever you’re most likely to turn. As I’ve heard said before, though, “faith can move mountains, but don’t be surprised if God hands you a shovel.

Or, as Julia Cameron says in “The Artist’s Way“:

“Pray to catch the bus, then run as fast as you can.”

Related is the famous story of “The guy by the river that is waiting for God to save him”, perhaps made most famous by this snippet from the show “The West Wing”.

Needing help is one thing. Being lazy and just waiting for help is something entirely different. Like most people, I’m more apt to help someone when they’re putting in the work alongside me.

If I need help with something, I hope that God will be by my side and my friends will support me, but I’m still going to pitch in and do whatever I can to help us all get there.
