Google+ for Android gets new post abilities, moderation and more

android-13013A new update for the Google+ Android app has just rolled out, bringing with it a few nice new features:

  • Support for adding a link when creating a post
  • New notifications tray (now slides in from the right)
  • Additional Community moderation features (remove spam posts from the app)

In addition, the folks at GooglePlusDaily have found a few more updates including a search button in the navigation ribbon and seemingly some nice performance tweaks to help things run more smoothly.

Google+ Android app updated; finally allows resharing

The Google+ app on Android is widely viewed as a great app, but it was missing a few key features.  One of those has been resolved now, with the latest update finally allowing you to reshare posts from other users!

New features in this update:

  • Reshare a post
  • App now available in 38 languages
  • Incremental improvements to notification reliability
  • Clearer Instant Upload options in the initial setup dialog
  • Ability to create a new circle from the “Circles” destination

Bug fixes:

  • Eliminate Instant Upload duplicates on HTC models
  • Fixed “No name” issue in Huddle
  • Hidden 1:1 Huddles now reappear when new messages are sent
  • Fixed issue with notifications count changing when switching from portrait to landscape
  • Other performance fixes and minor UI tweaks
  • Ability to create a new circle from the “Circles” destination

Nice updates to the Google+ Android app today

Google has just pushed out an update to the Google+ Android app, with a handful of nice improvements.  You still can’t share posts or +1 comments, but they’ve tightened up quite a few things.

  1. Improved notifications reliability
  2. “_add to circle” notifications shown in bulk
  3. Share stream posts to individual people
  4. Clicking a +mention takes you to the person’s profile
  5. +mentions now autofill from your Circles
  6. Stream no longer resets to top when screen is rotated
  7. Nearby accuracy
  8. Start a 1:1 huddle from a person’s profile or a group huddle from a circle profile
  9. Hide 1:1 huddles
  10. Clickable links in huddles
  11. Improved autocomplete when adding a person to a huddle

Google+ iPhone app finally released!

Apple has just approved the Google+ iOS app, and you can get it now!  Here is the iTunes link, and the application is free of charge.

Google+ auto-upload from Android will blow your mind

Last night, my mind was officially blown.  I’ve been using the Google+ Android app for a while now, and the way it auto-uploads photos is great.  Last night, though, I shot some video clips of my daughter on my phone.  I thought that it would auto-upload them, but I wasn’t sure.

When I got home and logged into Google+, there they were.  Uploaded, processed and ready to share.  It took about 15 seconds to share them — clicked “share”, selected my “friends” and “family” circles, added a sentence about the video, and shared them.

Here’s the cool thing: No cables, no uploading, no memory cards, no syncing.  It just worked.  Brilliant.

Google+ Android app gets a nice update

Google has just pushed out another update to their Android app, making everything work just a little bit better.  Here’s the list of updates, from Google’s Robin Norvell:

Fun Features

  • Customize your Stream to show streams from individual circles (Stream>Menu>Manage Views)
  • New UI allows adding multiple people or entire circles to an existing group Huddle
  • Set photo as wallpaper (when viewing photo)

Good Fixes

  • Fixed some issues with the Swype keyboard
  • If someone you’ve never huddled with before invites you to a group Huddle, you can now dismiss the invitation
  • Performance improvements and bug fixes throughout the app
Surprisingly, you still are unable to share posts or +1 a comment from within the app.  Still, this the third version of the app we’ve seen and Google is iterating quite quickly.  Now, if we can just get that iOS app released things will be moving along nicely.

Lots more information about the Facebook 3.0 app is coming out.  AppAdvice has posted a variety of features that you’ll find in the new app, such as:

  • The new news feed, similar to the news feed on the main Facebook site.
  • You can “like” items.
  • No push notification, though they’re hoping to release that with 3.1
  • Events, and you can even RSVP.  Can’t visit an event’s wall, though.
  • Notes, but no note tagging.
  • Pages, which you can “fully interact” with
  • Create new photo albums
  • Upload images to any photo album
  • Zoom into photos
  • Easier photo tagging
  • Profile picture albums
  • New home screen.  This sounds cool.  You have nine boxes to play with and add links to — people, pages, etc.  You can create multiple screens of boxes for other people, pages.  However, once you add an item it’s stuck — no moving or deleting it unless you reinstall the app.  Yes, this will be fixed for 3.1.
  • Call/text directly from the Friends page.
  • Partial messages will be restored if you quit while typing (to take a phone call, for example).
  • Upload video from 3GS, but you can’t play any videos on the phone.
  • No landscape mode.

Still no word on the exact release date, as that’s in Apple’s hands.  I’d expect it in the next few days, but you never know.

WordPress app now available for the iPhone

As first revealed on Mobileography, the WordPress app for the iPhone is now available in iTunes!  This is a slick little (free) app that makes it easy to write/edit posts and your WordPress blog.  This works with WordPress.com blogs or any self-hosted blog that is version 2.5.1 or higher.

My only complaint so far is that there are no comment tools in there.  I’m often having to clean up comments on the road, and a better way to do that would be nice.  That being said, this is a superb little app and I’m sure it’ll only get better with time.  Go get it and you’ll see what I mean.
