In an effort to help me keep up with everything I post each week, here is my latest “Sunday Summary” of my posts from the week.
Mon, June 19: If it costs less, we care less
It’s one of those psychological things that I don’t really care for, but it always matters; if you pay more for something, you ascribe more value to it, even if it’s not worth what you paid.
Tue, June 20: Writing a summary is 100x more valuable than reading one
While I enjoy many of the summary tools out there, like Blinkist for books and podcasts like Founders, the people that put together those summaries are getting immensely more value from creating them than we do from reading them. That’s what this weekly summary is for, on a much smaller scale, to give me a chance to read back through my old posts again.
Wed, June 21: You are advertising to a moving parade
I’ve done a poor job of reading David Ogilvy’s work over the years, and I’m starting to correct it. This was one of his more popular quotes, where he encourages companies to stick with their current ad campaigns longer than they generally do. You may get sick of saying the same thing over and over, but your audience is always changing and your “old” slogan is going to be fresh and new for many of them.
Thu, June 22: We all have the same tools
If you have the latest iPhone or Pixel, you literally have the best that money can buy. Even if a billionaire wanted to drop an incredible amount of money on a phone, they really couldn’t get anything better. You have the same tools as everyone else, so there’s nothing stopping you from creating amazing work.
Fri, June 23: Dumb rules come from lazy leadership
I had never thought about this before, but my friend Craig shared some thoughts on where those “dumb” rules at your company came from and I thought it was rather insightful.
Sat, June 24: Headphones for every device
Over the years, I’ve gradually assigned a different pair of headphones to each of my devices, rather than having one set that is paired to multiple devices. It’s worked out very well!
I hope you found some value in this. If you ever have questions, ideas, or disagreements regarding anything I write, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
